Chronic Wound Consumables Scheme (CWCS)
Overview
The Chronic Wound Consumables Scheme (CWCS) provides coverage for essential wound care consumable products to support people living with diabetes, chronic wounds and stomas.
The scheme is specifically designed for individuals who do not have medical insurance or whose existing insurance does not cover wound care consumables.
Through this initiative, CWCS aims to ensure that eligible patients receive the necessary wound care materials to promote healing, prevent complications, and improve their overall quality of life.
About Chronic Wounds
Chronic wounds are wounds that fail to progress through the normal stages of healing within 30 days. They tend to heal slowly, may heal only partially, and often recur.
Common examples include diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure injuries, and other non-healing wounds.
Why It Is Important
Chronic wounds significantly impact a person’s quality of life and require long-term, consistent care. This places a considerable burden on both patients and the healthcare system.
Currently, most patients must pay the full cost of wound care consumables, which can cause financial strain and lead to delayed or inadequate care.
The CWCS helps ensure that patients can access the right wound care products at the right time, improving healing outcomes and reducing healthcare costs in the long run.
Eligibility
The CWCS supports individuals who meet the following criteria:
-
Diagnosed with diabetes have a chronic wound and stoma
-
Do not have medical insurance, or whose existing insurance does not cover wound and stoma care consumables
